How does Kamvo work?
Open the app and tap “What are we shooting?”. Pick the moment, tell us a bit about it, then choose photos, video or both and how long you want. Each length shows when your photographer would arrive and when you’d be done. Book, and pay for the time you booked.
Your request goes to the closest available photographer within five miles. If they don’t accept within thirty seconds, it moves on to the next one. Once someone accepts, you can watch them head to you on the map. When you’ve found each other, the session starts and the clock runs.
What if no one is nearby?
You’ll see “No photographers nearby right now.” Tap “Notify me when one’s available” and we’ll save your shoot. If a photographer comes online within five miles in the next four hours, we’ll send you a notification that opens your shoot, ready to book.
Nothing is charged until a photographer is matched.
What can I book?
Anything you’d want someone to take pictures of: family time, a day at a theme park, a night out, the beach, a party, game day, behind the scenes of your business, or an event. Pick one, or Something else, and tell us a bit about it. That note is what a photographer reads before accepting.
Who are the photographers?
People near you with a smartphone and a good eye. They don’t have to be professional photographers, but we review every photographer’s work before they can take bookings, and each verifies their identity with a government ID and a selfie through Stripe.
Where is Kamvo available?
Kamvo is starting in Orange County, California. We’re recruiting our first photographers now, so whether you can book depends on who is available near you at the time.
How do I rate my photographer?
Give them one to five stars at the end of the session, or tap a star in your receipt email. Your rating helps other clients and helps good photographers earn Pro.
How much does a session cost?
Every booking has a $5.00 arrival fee, which goes to your photographer for getting to you, plus $2.00 a minute with a ten-minute minimum. So the smallest booking is $25.00. You pay upfront for the length you book. There are no booking fees and no surge pricing.
What if the session runs long?
Overtime is charged automatically at the same $2.00 a minute. There’s no second arrival fee. You can watch it add up on the session screen, and the total is shown before you confirm the session is finished.
Can I cancel, and will I get a refund?
- Before a photographer is matched: full refund.
- After a photographer is matched, for a valid reason (the photographer isn’t responding or is running late, once they’re more than 5 minutes past their arrival time and haven’t arrived): full refund.
- After a photographer is matched, because you changed your mind: a $10.00 cancellation fee, and the rest is refunded. The fee goes mostly to the photographer for their time.
What if my photographer cancels?
If a photographer cancels for any reason, you get a full refund.
What if I’m running late?
Your photographer will wait. If you haven’t shown up within five minutes of their arrival, they can mark the booking as a no-show. In that case a $25.00 no-show fee is kept, most of it goes to the photographer, and the rest of what you paid is refunded.
How is my payment handled?
Payments are processed securely by Stripe. Kamvo never sees your full card number. We keep only the last four digits and the card type so you can tell your cards apart.
Can I tip my photographer?
Yes. Pick $5, $10, $20 or any amount up to $100, in the app, for 7 days after your session: from the end-of-session screen, your Bookings tab, or the “Add a tip” button in your receipt email. 100% goes to your photographer.
Do I get a receipt?
Yes. We email you a receipt after every session, and whenever a cancellation or no-show fee is kept. You can rate your photographer and add a tip straight from it.
Where are my photos?
In the Kamvo app. Your photographer uploads them after the session, within 12 hours, and we send you a notification the moment they arrive. Open Your photos to see them all and save them to your phone in one tap.
What if my photos don’t arrive?
If your photographer doesn’t upload them within 12 hours of the session, you’re refunded in full.
Missing a photo?
Message your photographer in the Kamvo app. The chat stays open for 24 hours after your session. If something else is wrong with your photos, tap Something’s wrong in Your photos and we’ll help.
How long do photos stay in the chat?
24 hours. Photos and videos sent through the chat are deleted automatically 24 hours after they’re sent. Save anything you want to keep before then.
Does Kamvo keep a copy of my photos?
Only for a short time. Your photos are stored securely so they can reach you, and erased 48 hours after they arrive. Save the ones you want to keep before then.
Kamvo only features a photo from your session if you turn that on. It’s off unless you do.
Who owns the photos?
You do. Everything shot during your session belongs to you. Your photographer must delete the files from their phone if you ask, and they can’t post or use them anywhere without your written permission.
Do I need to be a photographer?
No. Clients book Kamvo for casual photos of themselves right now, not a portfolio shoot. If you can frame a decent picture of your friends, you can do this. There’s no interview. Just show us a portfolio link or six photos of people you’ve shot.
What do I need to get started?
- Be 18 or older, with a smartphone.
- Show us your work: a link to your portfolio, or six photos of people you’ve shot. We review every one ourselves.
- Once you’re approved, verify your identity with a government ID and a selfie, through Stripe.
- Set up payouts, so your earnings have somewhere to go.
- Add a profile photo, so a client knows who is arriving.
You can’t go online until you’re approved and these steps are done.
What if I’m not approved?
We’ll tell you why, and you can send us new work after 30 days.
How much do I earn?
You keep the $5.00 arrival fee on every job, plus 75% of every minute, overtime included. That works out to $1.50 a minute, or $20.00 on a ten-minute booking ($21.00 once you earn Pro). Tips are extra, and 100% yours.
We’re signing up photographers before we bring clients on, so requests are still rare. Apply now so you’re ready, but don’t quit anything for this yet.
What is Pro?
Pro is earned, the same way for everyone: 25 sessions, a 4.8 rating or better from at least 20 ratings, and answering 90% of your offers. Declining is fine; letting an offer run out counts against you. It’s awarded automatically and checked on the 1st of each month.
As a Pro, Kamvo’s cut drops from 25% to 20%, so you keep $1.60 a minute: $21.00 of a $25.00 booking, $53.00 of a $65.00 one. Pros get a PRO badge, but no priority: jobs still go to the closest photographer.
Can I show my photography business to clients?
Yes, if you’re a working photographer or you’ve earned Pro. Add your website when you sign up, then turn on “Show my business to clients” in the app. Once Kamvo OKs the details, clients see your business name, and after the session, a link to book you for bigger shoots.
When do I get paid?
Your share shows as Pending until you upload the client’s photos in the app, within 12 hours of the session. The moment the upload finishes it’s yours. You request a payout whenever you like, and it goes to your bank through Stripe. There’s no weekly cycle to wait for and never a client to chase.
If the photos aren’t uploaded within 12 hours, the client is refunded and the job isn’t paid.
Do I have to work set hours?
No. There are no shifts and no minimums. Go online when you’re free and offline when you’re not. Declining a job costs you nothing: the offer moves on to the next photographer, and your rating isn’t affected.
Can clients tip me?
Yes. Clients can tip you in the app for 7 days after the session, and every cent of it is yours.
Do clients rate me?
Yes, from one to five stars after each session. You also get an earnings email for every job you finish.
How far will I have to travel?
Requests only reach photographers within five miles, and the offer shows you the location before you accept. You decide whether it’s worth the walk or the drive.
Am I an employee?
No. Photographers are independent contractors, so taxes aren’t withheld from your earnings. Set some aside, and talk to a tax professional about your situation.
Are photographers ID-verified?
Yes, and before that we review their work ourselves. Before a photographer can accept any booking, Stripe checks their government-issued ID against a selfie.
What can the other person see about me?
During a booking, you each see the other’s first name and photo. The photographer sees where the session is, and you see the photographer’s live location as they come to you. Neither of you is shown the other’s last name. After the booking ends, the photographer no longer sees your photo or address.
When is my location shared?
Only when it’s needed. A photographer’s location is shared while they’re online and during a job. A client’s location is used to book and to track the session. If you tap Notify me, your spot is kept for up to four hours so we can tell you when a photographer is nearby. A client’s location isn’t shared with a photographer outside an active booking.
What isn’t allowed?
Kamvo can’t be used for adult or explicit content, anything illegal, content that violates someone else’s rights, or photos of minors without a parent or guardian present. Harassment and abuse aren’t tolerated, and neither is arranging bookings off the platform with someone you met through Kamvo.
How do I report a problem?
Email support@kamvo.app and tell us what happened and when. Incidents are logged and reviewed, and repeated problems can lead to an account being suspended or removed.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, open the Me tab, choose Edit profile, then Delete account. You can also email support@kamvo.app and ask. Your name, photo, phone, email and login are removed right away. Booking and payment records are kept for 7 years, as tax law requires, without your name on them.
You can’t delete your account while a booking is in progress, while you owe a balance, or while you have earnings not yet paid out.
How do I change my profile?
Open the Me tab in the app and choose Edit profile to change your name or photo.
Why am I getting notifications?
Kamvo sends notifications for bookings, job offers, messages and important account updates. You can turn them off in your phone’s settings, but you may miss time-sensitive booking updates.
How do I contact Kamvo?
Email support@kamvo.app. We usually reply within 24 to 48 hours on business days.
